Moab Camping-- Moab is located in south eastern Utah about 233 miles south of Salt Lake City. It has a population of just under 5000. Moab is know mostly for it's tourist attractions and close local to National Parks and Monuments. It is famous for it's slick rock trails used for mountain biking and the yearly Moab-Jeep Safari held every year at Easter.

Most times of the year Moab is fairly quiet. But during the Jeep Safari it's as if the entire world desends upon this small town. You will see miles and miles of 4x 4's desiring to try their hand on the slick rock of several trails.

Fins n' Things
Fins n' Things

Fin's N Things is one of these trails. This is a very fun trail. It got its name from the slick rock formations that jut out as if they are fins. The trail basically takes you from one fin to another with challenging sections thrown in between for good measure.

There are places where a spotter may be necessary. But make sure and get a good one. Last time we were there our spotter backed us up into a rock causing damage to our rented jeep!

Hells Revenge- Is not for the faint of heart. It has great expanses of slick rock with slopes so steep you'll worry if you'll make it or not.

If you are planning to go to Moab I would suggest you make it a Moab camping trip. Moab has beautiful weather most times of the year, ok so maybe in the summer it's unbearably hot, but for camping purposes it's usually great weather.

One of the wonderful (exciting) things about southern Utah is their weather can turn on a dime. You can have sunshine one minute and 60 mph winds the next. Which adds some excitement to your Moab camping trip.

When camping, preparation is of top importance. Make sure and bring a sturdy tent. We use the Kirkland Springbar. No matter the weather it doesn't move. I've seen other less espensive tents go rolling away -- literally.

Camping Facilities

Privately owned campgrounds. - These campgrounds typically have many conveniences such as running water, RV hook-ups, flushing toilets, showers and more. You typically have to call for reservations.

Bureau of Land management campgrounds- There are many campgrounds owned and maintained by the BLM. The are typically located in very scenic locations and well maintained. They provide a beautiful envioronment for family camping. Many of these campsites can be used for RV's though there are not hook-ups. If you wish to camp in the BLM campgrounds they are available on a first come-first serve basis. Although they do have some group sites that are reservable.

State Parks and National Parks Campgrounds. - These can be some of the most beautiful of all the campgrouns because of the scenic areas they are located in. The general drawback to these particular campgrounds is the lack of amenities that are offiered in the privately owned campground.

Below is a list of privately owned camp grounds and their contact information if you think you'd like try a Moab Camping trip.

Great information. Have you been to Lake Powell? Check out my HUB on a great Lake Powell vacation. This last arch picture you posted reminds me of Rainbow Bridge, which is on Lake Powell. Some of my family lives in Utah, and they are regulars at MOAB, so it was great to see and read about what they might actually be doing there. Thanks.

Yes, We love Lake Powell. We've gone their 1-2 times a year for the past 13 years. It's my kids favorite place on earth!

I'm a great spotter 3 years ago

Are you sure it was the spotter. it seemed like the drive was having the hard time making it up one of the less challenging obsticals.

The spotter was used on a steep narrow area to help us when we were backing up --- and to let you know how great the spotter was he guided us down and we hit a rock!

As you probably know, Fns and Things is a fairly mild trail, although a lot of fun for the faint of heart!

I live in Colorado just a couple hours from Moab. It is a great place to be for us in the winter. It does get a little cool at night in the winter but it is totally tolerable with decent camping gear.

Another great area is Canyonlands south of there! Check it out sometime if you haven't already.

Cool. I'm planning my family's first trip to Moab this spring. Your hub is encouraging and helpful.
